Innocentia joined the KLM program in 2009 and has excelled in her first two years at Uplands. She is from Nkanini, an extremely remote village about 20 miles from the Uplands campus and very close to Kruger National Park.
Innocentia loves English because she knows how important it is to her ability to succeed in the world. She has a particular interest in poetry, and has improved her English comprehension greatly through borrowing poetry books from friends and the library. She enjoys math because she ultimately wants to be a successful businesswoman, and knows that numbers are essential in the world of finance.
This year, Innocentia found time to give back to the local community in addition to her academic studies. She volunteered at the local center for AIDS orphans and helped coach the under-14 girls’ netball team while playing on the under-15 team.
Biggest life lesson learned through the KLM program: [At Uplands] I’ve made friends with people of different cultures, of different races and who speak different languages. I’ve learned to understand other people’s feelings and I’ve become a better person.
